Brass Trumpet

Purchasing a raw brass trumpet is an excellent option for those wanting a natural, warm tone. These instruments have no plating or lacquer, which means that they produce the most resonance. These are especially popular with jazz musicians because of the big sound they can produce.

Originally, every trumpet was a brass trumpet. However, because raw brass can be easily tarnished, many manufacturers began using various types of plating and lacquers to protect the look of the instrument. While these techniques did serve their purpose, many players found that these protections somewhat altered the sound of the horn, especially when lacquered.

Many other problems popped up when it came time to repair the instrument. If the horn became dented for instance, then it had to be re-lacquered as well as straightened, which added more expense to the procedure. A raw brass trumpet, on the other hand, requires no such procedure when repaired.
